Are You UP for the Challenge? Stay Fit and Help Feed Delaware’s Youth!
Don’t miss your chance to support Delaware KIDS Fund and stay fit by joining us Saturday, August 2nd in Newport, DE for our 5th annual 5K. The Delaware KIDS Fund is an acronym for ‘Kids in Distressed Situations’ and is geared around assisting Delaware area kids that are at risk or in need for whatever reason.
The fund is a non-profit organization dedicated to providing goods and services such as; clothing, food, shelter, scholarships, educational grants, counseling and mentoring.
“There is a personal connection with any effort such as this. I’m a father of three kids myself and having been in out of various children’s hospitals, seeing those kids that are less fortunate than others; it hits home. A few years ago, we as a family decided to consolidate our giving and formalize it in the form of this Delaware KIDS Fund,” shares Thomas J. Hanna, VP of Harvey Hanna & Associates and Founder of Delaware KIDS Fund.
The Fund was established in 2008 by Thomas J. Hanna as a response to Delaware’s ‘food security crisis’, based on the premise that ‘no child of any age can flourish and grow without adequate nutrition’. The fund has grown to encompass much more since then, as it not only supplies nutrition for Delaware youth’s physical growth. It also helps to feed their minds through the mentoring program, counseling, scholarships and educational grants.
“What motivates us at DE KIDS Fund is the staff that we see day in and day out from the food bank of Delaware. They serve over 200,000 Delawareans, half of which are children under the age of 18, which is a startling fact. That’s really what generated the Delaware KIDS Fund 5K,” shares Ryan Kennedy, ‘Director of Marketing’ at Harvey Hanna & Associates.
Hundreds of runners will hit the streets of Newport on Saturday August 2nd for the 5th Annual Delaware KIDS Fund 5K presented by a slew of local sponsors and Harvey Hanna & Associates. There will be plenty of pre-race and post-race festivities including music, food, beverages and raffles under a large tent across the street from James Street Tavern in Newport.
Runners and walkers will take on what many on the 5K circuit consider one of the more challenges courses. Will YOU be there? Are YOU up for the challenge?
